Many view that the development of genetic engineering and cloning holds the potential to solve several humankind problems. On the other hand, the development of these aspects is seen as the potential that is building and developing unchecked dangers. Hence, these views present both the positive and negative impacts of genetic engineering as a method of improving the circumstance of humans. Generally, cloning and genetic engineering opens an entire realm of issues related to biology, allowing scientists to be in a position of helping human beings, but these issues are not without negative impacts on humans. Cloning and genetic engineering have improved and solved various human circumstances n the world today. In fact, cloning finds many of its application in amplification of DNA, genetic fingerprinting, as well as modification of genetic makeup in humans. As a matter of fact, cloning through genetic makeup leads to introduction of positive traits in humans, and the elimination of undesirable traits. Perhaps, cloning and genetic engineering has improved and solved the life of humans through human organs development; hence, the life’s of people has been made safer and longer. One of the arguments for cloning is that it helps in organ replacement. Whereby, vital human organs in the human body are cloned to serve as backup operating system in the body of human beings. The presence of cloning is one of the lifesavers, for example, when some of the body organs such as heart and kidney fails, it can be replaced through cloning of the body organ (Nicholl, 2008). Genetic engineering has tremendous use in production of food. In the third world countries many people are suffering from malnutrition and hunger; hence, genetic engineering has come to solve these human problems. Undeniably, the world population is tremendously expanding meaning food supply will automatically reduce due to high demand. GMO (Genetically modified food) is a solution to this human problem. This is because genetically modified food has the power to resist herbicides and pesticides, thereby leading to a reduction of pollutant chemicals in the environment. In addition, GMO manufacture has the power to make their pesticides that send off insects. The end results of these characteristics are the increment of yield, which automatically reduces starvation in the globe (Stanley, 2000). Through genetic engineering, gene therapy has been made possible making it a convenient method to eliminate human problems. Gene therapy is used in treatment of genetic diseases affecting humans; this is carried out through genetic modification. Proponents assert that gene therapy has helped humans because it is cost effective and reasonable method of treating various gene diseases. The process does not require to be administered continuously meaning it is remarkably efficient. As a matter of fact, genetic engineering methods eliminate human suffering due to fatal, painful and debilitating genetic diseases. Germ-line gene therapy is also possible because of genetic engineering; this refers to the replacement or removal of faulty genes. Perhaps, it eliminates costly and destructive disease from the populace. Hence, proponents believe it is the best method to curb and eliminate human suffering (Russell, 2012). In addition, cloning and genetic engineering has led to rejuvenation in human life. Advocates of cloning assert that this type of technology help in getting rid of all physical body issues that come up with age. For example, it eliminates wriggles among the old people leading to emotional and psychological. Moreover, humans who have burns and injuries in their body are the greatest beneficiaries of cloning. They have a chance of receiving skin tissues that eliminate the burns. In some cases, human beings are infertile and cannot have children. Cloning is one of the solutions to most infertile couples (Nicholl, 2008). Couples undergo emotional and physical pain when undergoing infertility treatment; cloning eliminates these problems, putting them in a situation to have children that are genetically theirs. Cloning is also helpful in the genetic research, this is because the technology behind cloning enables researchers to understand the effects of genes that humans have, and composit ion of genes. In a wider perspective, cloning helps in eliminating genetic diseases. On the other hand, scholars and scientists assert that cloning comes with some negative impacts to humans. In fact, to many, cloning interferes with the natural process of creating children. The modification that takes place in humans may lead to the creation of smarter humans, which become problematic to those who are not products of cloning. Cloning does not give room to natural gene diversity to take place; cloning is only there to produce identical genes, meaning it hinders the process of gene replication, thus impeding diversity of genes. Hence, the beauty that lies on diversity and ability to adapt is eliminated. Family structure is important to the life of humans but cloning totally destabilizes the structure of family. Cloning is there to invite malpractices among medical practitioners and in society (Stanley, 2000). Hence, based on human ethic cloning takes away the ethical issues that are crucial to human, it devalues humans and the entirely undermines the importance of hum an existence. Genetic engineering influences the life of humans negatively. The use of genetically modified food is believed to react with the human body in negative ways. In fact, the side effects are unknown, but it has been demonstrated has a factor that increases the risk to human health by causing cancer and other human diseases. Furthermore, genetic engineering corrupts the supply of food in the globe (Russell, 2012). Many companies have utilized the production of food using technology, whereby they focus on profits at the expense of human health. Genetic engineering will create organisms that human beings will not have defense against, leading to evolution chaos. Conclusively, technology in the globe is a double-edged-sword, which needs to be taken care of responsibly. Cloning and genetic engineering are outcomes of technology; hence, it has both positive and negative impacts on the issues of humans. Proponents in support of cloning and genetic engineering assert that it is one method that holds the potential to eradicate and solve humankind problems. On a positive note, genetic engineering and cloning improve human circumstances by reducing food shortage, treating diseases, reducing costs, solving infertility problems, curbs human suffering, increases lifespan, as well as eliminating physical damages such as burns and wrinkles. Denial is a psychological defense mechanism that enables a person to continue to engage in a behavior in spite of relatively obvious negative consequences on their life. It’s a way to protect ourselves from seeing or feeling things that are unpleasant. In the case of the gambling addict, there may be repeated warnings from his or her spouse that they will not tolerate continued spending of household savings, job loss, and constant harassment by creditors. In light of this, the gambling addict will still deny that they have a problem with gambling and will believe that they have complete control over their actions. Denial permits one to distort reality, a very powerful psychological defense; it can have devastating consequences on our life, and the ability to disregard such negative consequences while continuing the behavior is a hallmark of denial. Denial is present, to some extent or another, in all addictions. It’s necessary, in the development of an addictive process, to experience a sense of denial while the addiction is beginning to take hold. Otherwise we would not continue with the addictive behaviors. Because of denial, the impact of our negative behavior is never fully appreciated until the consequences become so overwhelming that they can no longer be ignored. This is sometimes referred to as hitting bottom. People may continue their behavior indefinitely, with no recognition of the negative consequences of their actions, in spite of numerous personal disasters. Often an individual will not seek help for a specific problem, unless they’ve recognized that they are no longer in control of the situation and need help. This usually happens at a point when the negative impact of their addiction has become grossly obvious and their denial is broken. It is a process that cannot be rushed. Each person has to dis cover their own time frame for how and when to deal with their addiction. This, of course, can be very frustrating for family and friends of the addict, who often notice the problem long before the addict does. Negative consequences of Internet use vary considerably. I have been consulted on Internet cases where employees have been caught using their work computer for personal Internet access (in some cases wasting considerable company time and/or downloading sexually related material onto their computer). In some cases, individuals could be charged with sexual harassment as a consequence of exposing fellow employees to sexually explicit material against their will (even accidentally!). There may even be a legal liability for employers who allow (even unknowingly) their employees to use the company network to send personal email or other material that might be seen as objectionable by others. I’ve also seen numerous cases of couples with significant marital or relationship problems due to Internet abuse; at times even resulting in child custody investigations!Everyday I hear or receive stories of people who are getting into trouble with their online behavior at home or at work. It ma y take the form of abusing the Net by staying online longer than you had planned, having cybersex/cyberaffairs, or spending too much money online by gambling, stock trading, shopping, or auctioning. . I fear that as broadband access increases from the current 6% level, that we will see an increase in compulsive Internet use; The increase may occur because just as the faster modes of absorption of a drug increases the addictive potential a drug. Broadband Internet access could provide the hit in a much more rapid manner enabling a faster psychological impact and effect. Ever since the era of rap music began in the 1970’s, violence among its audience has been connected to the lyrics of rap songs. Eventually rap music became something society was able to blame for teen violence. As the music got more disturbing and the lyrics got more violent and discriminating towards women, rap artists have gotten more blame for teens acting out. Unfortunately, this blame is misplaced. Rap music should not be blamed for teen violence because the theory is based on stereotypes of teenagers and rappers, rap is merely one genre of music that alludes to violence, and can only be blamed for influencing feelings not actions. The studies done on this topic have only represented certain groups of people. In â€Å"Does Rap Put Teens at Risk?† Sid Kirchheimer shines light on a study that shows the effect of rap videos on African American girls between the ages of fourteen and eighteen. This article later goes on to state that rap video’s largest audience is white suburban youth. So where are the studies showing how rap videos have affected it’s largest viewing population? It could only be assumed that this information was left out of Kirchheimer’s article because the results would have contradicted his stance on the issue and therefore weakened his argument. The study also did not specify if these African American girls were prone to violence regardless of rap due to their role models or lifestyle. If the statistics regarding rap music causing violence are this far from exact and leave such i mportant information out, they can not be used as a legitimate reason to blame rap for violence. Not all teenagers are the same. Some may think that if violence is happening in a rap music video it is okay to do in real life, but others know that is not the case. It is a lot like advertising when it comes to knowing what is fake and just being used to attract an audience or sell a product. Teenagers are old enough to watch a teeth whitening commercial and not feel inclined to go out and buy that product because most likely that gorgeous woman’s teeth were whitened via computer. Those same teenagers are old enough to watch a rap video and not feel the need to go out and get a gun and some voluptuous women in metallic bathing suits to walk around with because the life being portrayed in that video is fake and only lasts for three to four minutes. The small number of teenagers who do not know the difference between music videos and reality are the ones causing the problems and f orcing their parents and society to put the blame on rap music, but it is not fair to make the generalization that all teenagers don’t understand the difference. Not all rap music is the same. Some rappers talk about life lessons and some talk about sex, drugs, and violence. They are all allowed to rap about whatever they want, but to group all of them together and blame the whole genre of music for that small group of teenagers is a stereotype. â€Å"Lumping all rap music together and dismissing it as incomprehensible noise can harm society,† said Miriam Fitting in her article â€Å"Who Takes the Rap?†. Theories based on large stereotypes should not be taken seriously. Rap not only includes a wide variety of genres within itself, but it is also not the only style of music that contains lyrics regarding violence. Country artists like Miranda Lambert and the Dixie Chicks have put out many songs referencing weapons and murder. In Miranda Lamberts Kerosene she si ngs, â€Å"Now I don’t hate the one who left you can’t hate someone who’s dead he’s out there holdin’ onto someone I’m holding up my smokin’ gun.† In her controversial song Gunpowder and Lead about a hypothetical abusive boyfriend, Miranda talks about drinking, jail, cigarettes, shotguns and says, â€Å"His fist is big but my gun’s bigger, he’ll find out when I pull the trigger.† The Dixie Chicks are also famous for their political and controversial music. Their song Goodbye Earl is about two friends killing an ex-husband and makes references to poisoning, suffocating, and dropping a body off in a lake and says â€Å"they don’t loose any sleep at night cause Earl had to die†. Popular rock songs also have lyrics that talk about violence and suicide. â€Å"Cut my life into pieces this is my last resort, suffocation no breathing don’t give a f*** if I cut my arm bleeding,† screams P apa Roach in his song Last Resort. Although other genres of music clearly allude to the same violence as rap music, rap seems to be the only genre being connected to teen violence. Miriam Fitting, the author of â€Å"Who Takes the Rap?† believes that rap doesn’t deserve the blame, or the isolation. She said, â€Å"rap music touches each of our lives, and not just when cars with twenty-inch speakers drive by blaring it, shaking both the windows of our houses and the fragile membranes of our eardrums. It is a connecting thread running through today’s youth culture†. Rap music is a large part of youth culture and not only has similarities to other genres in the present; it also shared its rebellious start with other genres in the past. â€Å"Like other popular styles, it [rap music] has a history that is closely aligned with the rebellious attitude of it’s young creators; youth who rejected the contemporary music prevalent during the 1970’s,â €  said Kwaku Person-Lynn in her article â€Å"The Origin of Rap.† People can say that music influences people, which it definitely does. It can make you feel sad or mad, it can even make you so mad you want to hurt someone. But when it comes down to it you are the one who committed the crime, you pulled the trigger, not the rap artist who sang about doing it. A song can make you feel any emotion in the book, but a song cannot make you do something. It is a classic battle of feelings versus actions. Blaming music for making you feel a certain way is valid, but to claim that a genre of music can make you physically do something is not. Famous rapper Eminem, who has spent every minute of his career being scrutinized by the public because of his controversial and downright disturbing lyrics, explains it all perfectly in his song Sing For the Moment. He raps, â€Å"they say music can alter moods and talk to you, but can it load a gun up for you a c*** it too? Well if it can then the next time you assault a dude just tell the judge it was my fault and I’ll get sued†. No matter what Miranda Lambert sings to you, that song can’t make you go out, buy a shotgun and pull the trigger on someone you hate. No matter what Papa Roach yells at you, those words can’t make you go out, buy a razor, and take it to your wrist. No matter what rappers spit to you, that rhyme can’t make you go out and commit violence. Lyrics can make you want to do something; they can’t make you do it. Rap music has been viewed in relation to teen violence and rebellion almost as long as it’s been around. Contrary to popular belief rap music cannot be blamed for violence among teenagers. The studies trying to prove the opposite are based on stereotypes and therefore cannot be used as a credible source. It is the only genre of music blamed for promoting violence when country and rock lyrics clearly show that rap is not alone with its referen ces to violent behavior. Lastly, rap music cannot be blamed for actions of violence because the combination of lyrics and melody can only go as far as to alter a person’s mood, but cannot force a person to commit violent crimes.
